I believe soffit is about 6"-8" wide. That should put me at around 30 sq feet of ventilation if I am calculating that correctly.
But remember the height of the gap vertically is what you measure.
Have made that miscalculation myself.

Ah, so you mean the slope of the ventilation (or soffit in this case) is correct way to measure the ventilation? I need someone who is better than math to do this proper calculation! Hopefully, it all works out. :/

The distance between the top of the wall and the underside of the roofing,
and then the distance between the rafters, defines the ventilation opening/gap.
Kinda hard to 'draw'....but....

Run a tape flat against the wall until the 'dumb' end hits the underside of roofing,
then read the number on the tape at the top of the wall,
that's your vertical dimension of the opening.

Then calculate all the space between the rafters.
But......you have a bit of extra between the top of the rafter and the top of the purlins,
not sure I'd bother with that.

Does that make sense?
Second nature to an old drafter/designer as building stuff to document on drawings.

I gotcha! We used 2x4's, so max height would likely be 3.5", but it's probably a bit less. That makes far more sense that what I was thinking. 😅🤦‍♀️
 
First let me just say bravo! on a fabulous coop build. I love it!
Second thank you @aart for your advice to OP about furnace filters. I’ve had that problem of too much wind or occasionally rain or snow getting blown in the soffits on the upside of the slanted roof. I closed them till I could come up with a better idea, leaving the downside open for ventilation. Now I have that “better idea”!
 
Latest Cluck Mansion update. Linoleum is down. I know it looks fancy but it was among the cheapest. We used up cycled aluminum for the siding, and had enough to cover our garage too. Not pictured is the interior framing. Part of the coop will be decided to leave room for storage, first aid, brooding chicks, or whatever.
