Chicken massacre overnight last night..

I am sorry that is soooo sad. The same thing happened to me My hens were a year old and ready to begin to have chicks.. Now my Roo is all alone. It is sad. Just today I bought him a randamn hen for company. I m hoping to get chicks to try for next year. I have a coronation Sussex Roo. Chanelle

Sorry to hear about the loss of your chickens. If you live anywhere near where Racoons are common, then it really could have been a family of racoons. I used to work at a zoo and the Racoons broke into the zoo's cages and killed several birds including a falcon and a red tailed hawk. Both had broken wings and couldn't fly away, but still the racoons got them anyway.

So very sorry for the loss. Can you lock the latch? Hope you can get some traps. I am thankful I got one last summer to get a ground hog,and bam look at all the animals I got. I know there is still one possum out there,as I saw it on a rainy day.

Praying you have no more losses!

you know what makes it worse, is that I really dont have any IRL friends...I have a few acquaintances...but none that will just come over and sit with me and listen/talk to me..
and I canat talk to hubby cause he's working his 77 hrs this wk (his new job title etc doesnt start for a couple wks)...but sometimes a good girlfriend with a great cry can help..and
I cant..I'm alone..like normal...again..

Honey I'm right there with ya. The one IRL friend I had lives way down in the city. B/c of Kids, Family Issues, responiblities, and my in laws telling the whole street they live on and anyone else who would listen that we do drugs (and more), I have not seen her in a year. Which is mostly my fault for not wanting to subject her to being feed for their rumors and bullsnot. My DH also works his tailend off, so when he is here, he is sooo tired. I guess what I am trying to say is, your not truely alone. We are here. Some lurking in the shadows, (hrmm that sounds creepy) some flapping our jaws on different threads. We do care, and feel your pain.

Your son probably did latch it. Coons will unlatch things. If you have a live trap and some honey buns, you can catch them easy as pie. Hopefully whatever it was does not come back.

The is as bad as I've heard about. I can't wrap my head around the idea of somebody opening your coop. Who would do something like that? If by chance you son didn't latch the door, what an awful way for him to learn responsibility. I do hurt with you and pray your boy lets something like this help him mature and not turn bitter and want to quit.

Best of luck regrouping getting thing back to normal.
