So from deciding to get a couple of new chicks, we're up to 5 new chicks now. The original 3 are 11 days old, the new ones 2 days old. I swear the SLW is a bantam, because she is soooooo small, but feisty as heck and supposedly a standard SLW. Have 7 Blue Splash Maran eggs going into lock-down on Tuesday and 2 more fuzzy butt's due on April 20-22. We had no problems introducing the 1 day old chicks to the 10 day old chicks. They will all be going in with a flock of 3 established almost hens and a flock of 5 established ducks in 12-15 weeks. Plus we are getting 2 new ducklings who will be around the same age as the chicks we get on the 20-22nd of April. ARE WE NUTS?
***EDIT*** I have to add that there is some pecking order stuff going on and the little SLW is standing her ground completely! Raising herself as tall as she can and jumping at whoever is challenging her - especially the SS who seems to be vying for top chick with the BO. The Delaware and Jersey are wisely staying out of it.
Our teeny tiny Silver Laced Wyandotte (Charmander) - absolute ruler of the roost. Bulldozes through all the others, often under them!
Our Black Jersey Giant (Onyx) same age as the SLW and twice her size. She has a perfect white fuzzy butt as well....not sure where that came from? She's the most timid as well.
And our other 3 big girls at a week old! Woodsy, a SS, Ghost, a Delaware and Gobi, a BO.
Here's the gang today - you can see how small the SLW is in comparison! Told my son pick the one's who are eating, drinking, no pasty butt, NOT the runt, and who are lively.....well 3/4 ain't bad.
