Chicken Math Got Me Bad....

Everyone continues to be doing well. The littles are all integrated and sleeping up on the roost bars. I added a second one, some of the poop from birds on the front bar doesnt always hit the board but that's ok.

My two "helpers" are always interested in what I'm doing and do I have treats for them. Janeway the swedish flower hen and River the welsummer (I hope anyway, she still looks like a brown leghorn to me).

Inspections after cleaning are always performed too. Passing grades are always handed out as long as a few BSL worms were slipped to the inspector.

Anyone want to hear about MY woes?? lol
I’m officially a chicken math super-sucker. XD

Went to our local Co-op today for feed, and they had chicks! Leghorns, Buff Orpingtons, and New Hampshire Reds, priced at only $4 a PULLET!! I figured I could handle a dozen right now.
And, well, my super-saver grandpa, (always on the lookout for a discount), was with me, and he convinced me to go bulk because of the discount… so that would be 20 chicks, at $3.50 a piece. Then they gave me an extra.
Now I’m suddenly raising 21 chicks inside… but the best part is, my incubator of 26 is hatching TOMORROW!

Someone pray for me! lol

Thank goodness I’ve got customers who want pullets this year!

And everyone is currently laying. These arent all the eggs, but a good representation.

She ended up being 100% a Welsummer. No white earlobes and she lays a nice chocolately egg with speckles some times. And definitely not a leghorn temperament.

I feel like if your leghorns were anything like the ones I had in the past, it would be easy to tell by behavior. The two brown leghorns I had were bat crap crazy feral.
