Chicken math has begun, but one small problem…

If you want more variety and want to try those other two breeds as well, can you ask the feed store if you can trade some of your Ameraucanas for the other two breeds? No need to have 5 of the same, so either trade or rehome some of the Ameraucanas to make room for the Australorps and LOs.

Since I’m new to chickens he wants me to start with these first.
Probably wise advice. It is SUPER easy to get in way over your head with chickens really fast, especially once you start searching the different breeds and looking to expand you egg colors. Plus, you will see chicks coming in and out probably until around June, so you have some time to raise these ones, get them out the brooder, an move a new batch in.

My spouse doesn’t have much of an opinion cause I clean up all the poop 😂. I got a little out of hand myself this year and my only advice is if you have limited space, you may want to stagger like mentioned above. If you fill your coop to the max on year 1, what about all the babies you could have next year? That’s why I’ve finally put a stop on myself. I do want laying hens of different ages.
