(Tue Sep Aug 10th - Day 145)
Congrats Hei-Hei on egg #10 (and your 9 day streak).

We finished our last store bought eggs this morning, and currently have 23 of our own eggs. We've been eating Angela's eggs off/on since she started laying, but this might actually be the start of us being fully self-sufficient wrt eggs!

(Tue Sep Aug 10th - Night 145)
Once again, on a day where I post a mid day update, something exciting happens at night. After 2 weeks with the automatic door and 6 nights of my entire flock tucking themselves in... NOBODY went to bed! 🥴
Earlier this afternoon, I had added a few days worth of dried coffee grounds to the coop floor. Even though it wasn't the first time, perhaps it introduced enough of a change in smell that it somehow made them unhappy?
I started kicking myself thinking that I just undid 1-2 weeks of training. Ugh.
Got all dressed up to tuck everyone in, and... SURPRISE! 3rd egg.
Seems like it's probably a new layer as the egg is also pretty small (L to R - Angela, Hei-Hei, and ???)

I think it's Spot (a Black Sex Link) since I've seen her going in/out of the coop a lot more than the others, even doing so when Hei-Hei (Golden Sex Link) first started laying. I really don't have the free time to camp out in front of the coop this week, so maybe I should try and get those motion activated cameras installed and pointed at the door. Hopefully, by seeing who's going in/out most frequently I can figure out who is laying.

I also found two large circles in the mulch that someone had burrowed into during the afternoon, and it wasn't all that hot today, so who knows what's going on ATM.

P.S. Angela who I thought was a white leghorn has consistently been laying those light brown eggs. Does that mean she's not a Leghorn? I read somewhere that Leghorns are supposed to lay white eggs. Doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Just curious!

If your coop isn't more than 100ft from an available outlet (for the sync module) I highly recommend blink cameras.

Chickens naturally want to dust bathe, so regardless of temp, they will make a bathing area wherever they think is a prime location, lol

She may be an austra white (leghorn mix) they are very similar in appearance, with the austras having a few flecks of black throughout their feathers.

Leghorns are supposed to lay white eggs. So either she is not a Leghorn, or she is not a "good" Leghorn.

You could post a recent picture and see if the answer is obvious to anyone here. There are quite a few white chicken breeds, with some looking more alike than others, so sometimes it becomes clear and sometimes it never does.

Thanks for the tip, I will check those out. I have some wireless Eufy ones that I bought on Prime Day. I had them setup when the flock was in the garage, but just haven't gotten around to mounting them. Haven't decided where I want to point em: monitor outside for predators, monitor nest boxes, monitor inside so I can watch them play, etc.

Hmm, that might be it. She definitely has some black flecks. That's actually why we chose her. We thought the little flecks were cute.

Here are some from today:

The brown is from a recent dirt bath, but the dark gray/black streaks have been there since she we got her at a few weeks of age.

I have Blink cams too; about 6 of them. Here's one I tested out in one of the incubators.

Otherwise, we have an indoor one in the coop with motion activation shut off. That ones just for when I want to spy. The others are throughout our property. DH makes tree holders for them with a metal coffee can on its side screwed into the tree.
