Chicken math prevailed!

Pics
Chicken math may be getting me in trouble again, looks like both my silkies may be cockerels. Which obviously means I need more silkies. :lau

I bought 10 silkies/frizzles from a lady down the street. 3 died within days and 2 are roos. So yeah I'm going to need more silkies too. They are separate from my large flock though, because I hope to sell the babies and so they dont get trampled.

TSC closes in an hour............ y'all tell me not to go.... tell me to wait.... I mean, that I have plenty and don't need anymore...
I was there yesterday and they had the chicks marked 50% off since a new shipment was coming in. It took massive willpower to walk away!! And I've thought about going back all night! They had ducklings too and sooo many!

My silkies are separate from my standard flock as well. But since it's just the 2 they don't have a coop yet. They are in a large dog kennel right now. I will have something made up before it gets cold.

I have one standard silkie(I don't care what people say about there only being bantams, she's the same size as the rest of my full size birds), I'm so glad she is a she and that she survived because I wasn't ever supposed to get one(parents don't like silkies but I said screw it, it's my flock, not theirs) and I snuck her in with my first batch of chicks this year... Excited for silkied chicks next year. And she's not a perfect silkie because she doesn't have as much feathering on her feet and her head has more of a mohawk/mullet than an afro(which if it wasn't like that then I was going to trim it back, so it saves me time and I prefer her over most silkies). TSC is always too appealing, especially because we keep a very mixed flock so I kinda go "ooh cute chicks, pretty birds" and I come home with them... oops. and then I hatch my own and I usually fill my incubator(all 41 slots).
[Okay, I got a little carried away with this and said more than I planned, but that's what I love about BYC]

Thank God I got a pretty good handle on my chicken math, but now thanks to my daughter (who works for TSC) I am now a SN duckling owner and am considering taking on another SN chick! Ugh I can't resist animals in need!

I saw your thread the other day!! Baby duckie definitely needs a friend!! :D I applaud your daughter for being able to work at TSC. I couldn't do it during chick days. I'd bring them ALL home!! :th

Thankfully my chicken math has a few other people to check it every so often... But I'm working on convincing those people to bring up the numbers to 200 next year...

 200?! I'm so jealous of the space to have so many! Lol.

You sound like me!! They had a bunch marked down but were out of the ones I wanted so I got three that are *actually* Barred Rocks (Not Marans like I'm pretty positive my others are) and three Leghorns for right at $10 total! I'm fighting the urge to go back and get any more before another shipment comes in. I have a couple breeds in mind that I would really like to have but haven't seen any yet this year. TSC is less than a mile from my house. :th

Have you got pictures of your Silkies? Would love to see them!!

Same goes for anyone, really! I would love to add in some silkies. May do so in the Spring.

I love stories!!! This is all so fascinating and everybody's experiences are unique but seem to have that same, "I just can't resist!" theme! Hah! Say as much as you want!

Your girl sounds awesome!! Mohawk/mullet or afro, Silkies are gorgeous! That's how I am too! I love the crazy mix of breeds that we have. I have no idea what these chipmunk brown ones are; they don't have fuzzy faces like my EE's and were sold as "Barred Rocks" but are most definitely NOT Barred Rocks. Maybe y'all can figure out what they are cuz I sure can't yet! My surprise Cornishes were sold as Delawares but the breed was made evident in a couple of weeks when they towered over everybody else and their legs became tree trunks. The first 6 with the "Australorps" were actually 2 Australorps and 4 Cuckoo Marans or possibly Barred Rocks but I'm almost positive they're Marans with the trilling sounds they make. One lone Black Sex Link (named Nevermore) and many others. Lol. I love that you hatch your own as well! I'm seriously looking into the bator you linked before and was showing it to Chicken Man last night! Now he's talking about turkeys and quail and *still* talking about ducks! What have I started???
