I seriously was not planning on adopting any chickens today. Seriously. But then I went to that awful thing called Craigslist on my ipad and saw Black Copper Marans for sale only 20 miles away. I then checked some hatcheries and pretty much everybody is sold out til next winter. Marans were on my wish list for April chicks. Came home with 2 Black Copper Marans and one Blue. Gorgeous brilliant copper around the neck of the blacks. These are 6 months old and laying already, though. Oh gee darn, omelet for breakfast! I know I'll need to quarantine, but the brooder in the garage is pretty big, so it should be pretty effortless. They seem to be very docile.
