CHICKEN MATH STRIKES AGAIN

According to chicken math, I only have 2. I think I need some more chickens

You do, you need more chickens! 2 is not nearly enough!

Two of the four EEs we got a couple of months ago are looking like roos, which my town just outlawed.

8 chickens. I was planning on 10, so I need a couple more, right?

Ah, gotta love chicken math...

I've been bitten again.

Had an opportunity to help out a FFA teenager and get some Cochins. Figured only six, since they're really a little too "foo-foo" for me, with those silly foot-feathers

. Those silly, cute, darling little foot-feathers.

(But I don't like foo-foo chickens.

)

They do, though, make great pet chickens, and they're purebreed, so I can raise some and sell the eggs for hatching or hatch them to sell chicks. Right?

Hubby likes the blues, but I like the silver-laced... Hmmmm... what to do?

Yeah, well, we brought home six of each.

So, let's see... 17 layer hens (mutts) and 2 roos (+ 3 more that need to go to freezer camp so they don't count)
Plus 12 meat birds (so they technically don't count)
Plus 6 "pan-fry special" from Orschelins which I'm pretty sure has at least one production red mutt pullet in the mix... hey, they were on sale! Anyway, only one of those counts, lol.
Plus 15 free chicks that a teacher had hatched out at school (a craigslist find! Yay!) - which are now old enough that I am positive they are more Cornish Cross, so they don't count, either
Plus 10 Easter Eggers (supposedly all pullets, we'll see, lol) minus 1 that snuck out through an escape route I hadn't noticed, and never made it back.
And now plus 12 Cochins...

See, that's only 41 chickens...

It's also only 3 types of layers!

I need more chickens!

Chicken math is still making a appearance here.
I have 10 egg layer mutts with two of them setting (14 eggs total)
16 7 to 8 week old with 5 to 8 of them going to freezer camp a bit later.
31 2 to 3 week old, still not sure what we have there.
The 14 egg are due to hatch around the 25 and 27th of the month so I will be going from 57 to up to 71.
Boy I am so glad that our new house is coming with a second freezer, I am so going to be needing the space for freezer camp.
And just think I want to get started with rabbits.

I have a really cool trick to find out the gender of a young chick , you take them gently by the neck and a roo will put his legs up in the air and a hen will put her legs down I tryed it at a chicken farm and it was 95% right!

I started out with 6, 4 red star pullets and 2 straight run banty's, I said I only want 10, so I added 2 cochins and found 2 silkies and a teeny tiny banty at TSC so that's 11 and then I went to the coop and got 4 more 3 blue andy's and a hamburg so I'm up to 15 and then I went to Buchiets and found got 2 polish and a turken and 3 banty resuces so I'm up to 21 then I found out about Ameraucana's and found a breeder so I got 4 Aermaucana's 2 lav orps and 2 rumpless so now I'm up to 29, and I lost around 10 for at various ages and reasons.

This year I got about 30, so I think I've got between 45-50 I haven't counted them lately I'm just glad my hubby build the coop big enough for 50 birds just in case

so I'm an offical chicken addicts.

well my chicken math is so small almost nothing to talk about.
Im watching 1 rooster and his chicks, about 10 .
I had 1 hen setting in the corner of my house.
So I put a roof over her so she wouldnt get dronded when it rains.
She hatched 4 . Got to see them twice.
Now she only has 1 chick.
I hope to get a better chance to have more..

I'm sorry. I hope your luck improves!

See if you can build a broody cage, so if she goes broody again, you can move her and her eggs in there to keep everyone safe.
