Chicken math...

:welcome

Thanks for the nice intro and glad to have you here!

Correction: I am now down a duck. I came home from a horrible rainy work day to a headless duck that my ever tactful chickens were eating. :sick They can be gross!

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your animals. Oh wow do you know what is killing your ducks and chickens. I think I would secure them in a area that was preditor proof for their safety till I was outside with them after work. An I would be after what ever is killing your flock because its coming back each day and killing more till there will no none left.

I was just replying to a fellow member that also had a loss today. But yes, my flock is kept inside a pen during the day with lots of protective measures! Problem is we live near the water with eagles and hawks and foxes and lots and lots of other wildlife. Next step, a roof!

That should help out a lot putting something over the pen if its just open. Make sure you use hardware cloth on your coop and pen to keep out any animals that don't belong in there. Look to see where they are getting in and remove that problem to. The smallest opening and they can grab a chicken. Chicken wire just don't work.

Missing head generally an aerial predator like a hawk, eagles generally take the whole bird.
