Chicken Math

I did pretty much the same thing except I covered the entire unit! It sits inside the hardware cloth covered chain link dog run.

Love to see your setup, sounds great. My previous setup had a 7ft fence and was covered with deer netting. It kept even hawks out but the 2017/18 winter heavy snow destroyed the netting, then last years never ending rain flooded my coops. We built a large fully enclosed one for the adults and redid this one for babies. I hang plastic up if a bad storm is coming to keep it dryer inside. It's a work in progress.

Here is a photo of my pullet/cockerel coop. I bought it at TSC 2 years ago and it started falling apart within 6 months with the roof peeling. This year its getting a complete makeover. I still need to add the metal roof if the rain will allow it. There's no nesting boxes, we removed them since not needed. It originally came with 2 roosting bars but added a third for elbow, umm wing room. I gave it a new coat of paint and added a floor (much easier to clean now).

I first tried to solve a crowding problem by extending the run.

Explain your personal chicken math.
I was supposed to only get 4, that quickly turned to 5. Then hubby agreed to 2 for his son, that turned to 3 before we even left the store. I always wanted Silkies, you guessed it now have 5! I got brave and mail ordered 3, I get a free chick so that makes 4 new babies soon!!! Wow that got way out of hand.

1 yr ago I wanted about 5-6 for my own fresh eggs. Total this yr? 80-100 haven't counted them all yet. My daughter-in-law says they are like potato chips you cant have just 1!!!

Okay, i seriously have a different kind of chicken math problem, i have an architectual chicken math problem.
I started with three hens. I housed the three hens in a coop that was in a 3x2m run, ie the Main Hoose. That didn't seem big enough so I added a chicken tunnel to the West Wing Eggstention. But that didn't provide enough protection from the Scottish weather so I added what I call the Summer Pavillion (in that it provides shelter from wind and rain). And now I have added a further 3x2m run - the Pent Hoose.

And I still just have three hens, but in terms of chicken runs, they are the most spoilt hens ever.

Oh My Gosh!! This is too funny people! Y'all have a huge problem. Not me though, I [we] started out with just 6 store bought Orps and 2 yrs later with a added to coop, we now have 58! Now that's a problem! But in my defense too, some new ones are males and will be leaving soon. And I just hate that part, they're cute n fun too. My bluish rooster pictured is one I hatched; he actually has the color purple in him. Sadly, his twin brother died due to an accident. Good luck everyone and have fun with those two legged, egg laying, cackling girls! [and boys]

Hahaha I haven't even made it to 20 at one time! and you most certainly have a very severe case of CM, and probably a slight case of denial in there somewhere.

My personal chicken math when I first got my very first hens...
Trip to feed store for cat food = 4 chicks and a bag of cat food and a bag of chick feed.. followed by a quick trip to the local big box diy to get 'something' for a small coop.. = several hours on the net learning how to build a chicken coop. Nice coop but my husband noted that it could easily hold 8 chickens.. 1 day later hubby shows up with 4 more chicks. Now we have 8 chicks, need a run for them, lots of chicken wire.. oops chicken wire is too weak to keep out predators.. Oh hey we needed to fence that west field anyway.. now we're in for 12 heavy fence posts, some strong wire, built two good gates, lots of hardware, oh and ooh look Buff Orpington chicks... and what's a Plymouth barred Rock? Uh 12 chickens... Uh oh too many of them are crowing, oh whew, a neighbor down the road doesn't mind roosters and will take all 3.. Hubby notices "Hey we can get a few more now that your down 3"... Uh but hun, 6 more chicks is too many for the coop.. Need a new extra coop do you? Let's build a chicken tractor! Hubby gets busy.... Now we need more shelter... Oh well, I like the back covered chicken patio whatzit he built.
I'm not sure but I think my chicken math is on an infinite path now or something, kind of like trying to calculate pi.
