Hi All here’s a bit of fun to confuse my hubby 😜

I am trying to explain why I need two new hens to my hubby.

I think I have probably baffled him enough as he has that ‘rabbit in the headlights’ look 😳

So, I was wondering what your version of chicken math is ? There seems to be a variety of versions.

Cheers

I conditioned my husband with baked goods and eventually tamed him😂
Me: Hey hunny I made you an apple pie…
Husband: Where are the new chickens?
Me: Already in the barn…
Husband: Okay is the pie cooled enough to eat yet?

I end up with as many as 50-60 during spring/summer and go back down to a lower number over winter.

I started with 4, then I walked into my local family farm store…picked up 3 more, intended on two but I had to have a speckled Sussex as well) 2 weeks later they had some sapphire splash chicks, and I felt like 8 wasn’t a good number so I grabbed two. Now I have nine.

I’m going to the state fair in a couple weeks. I told my friend I have to leave the wallet in the car.

My husband is the one with the chicken math. March 31, we hade 0 chickens. August 22, we have 80. His idea of getting chickens is 10 (at minimum) at a time. Well at one point we had 36 chicks at once. He told someone the other day he would like 100 to 120. I was the one with the “rabbit in the headlights” look. Love our chickens but enough already. LOL.

You must be very good at telling them appart or how could you get their names right 😂

Only have some named not all. Like my Speckles Sussex cockerels - KC and Graham. Our one Buff Orpington with them is Linda Stewart (a former workmate). The large Buff Orp cockerel is Rocky because he is just very much a brut but has calmed down a bit. Our CCL cockerel is PW and I named one of his hatch mates a pullet PC. Our first Araucana (cockerel and pullet) are Eduardo and Isabelle. Our other hatched white Araucana is Lucia and one that has no tail is Rumples. Our Welsumer cockerel is Wesley. Then we have our barred rocks which were all named by others on BYC. I have no names for the Isa Browns, BO, SS, Silverudd Blues or NJ Giants or Welsumer pullets. When we had chickens in the past only some were named as well. Had about 70 then.

I guess that when you call them you don’t call them all by name then 😂

My brain cannot retain all of the names if I did name them all. “Chick-chick-chick” seems to activate them all. They come running up to us. Of course remembering they get food and treats from the “tall featherless beast”helps as well. 🐥🐥🐥

I do not name birds some live others do not, but rooster get names.
I grew up on a farm do not name what you may eat.
Now a old lady with a goofy cat and halloween.
