Welcome!  It should be gold laced, although there are MANY Wyandotte colors out there.  Araucanas and gold Wyandottes would NOT be available at the feed store; they are rare.  Mary

Most any hatchery has the gold laced Wyandotte... Or do you mean there is an actual gold (not laced) variety?

This is not a typical feed store to begin with. It caters to the yuppie type crowd, not the southern states type. They order from the same hatcheries where I would order for the rarer birds but in a quantity that makes it more affordable for us. I just saw it on their list for tomorrow so I am going to see them. I must say, I went to TSC in the beginning and knowing that I wanted a variety, the young lady working there sold me 4 Australorps and then asked if I might like these other two that she knew were rare and she had checked their wings etc and thought they were hens. They are unusual and have tufts from what would be our jawline, beautiful feathering, five toes, green/blue/gray legs and feet, and are the friendliest birds we have. Upon doing research, they have to be in the araucanas/Americana family's or may be Ees but they are great no matter what they are or where they came from!!

Please let me know where you get your rarer birds as I ordered a few that Ideal had and 1/3 died within 24 hours. They were tiny weak chicks that did not thrive despite everything I did. You can see my posts regarding my new chick protocol here on the postings. I am setting up breeding trios of breeds on the Livestock Conservation site's Critical and Threatened lists. Don't feel bad. I always have high losses with ideal. They offer a lot of breeds and varieties have good pricesa good minimum, but their quality and health are substandard, IME.

Oh dear, this is the wrong thread for me., and I am here anyway. I have two 7 YO Buff Orps, who are responsible for all of this. they hooked me. Started with 4 lost one, got 3 more, lost one more got three more (rescues) now down to the last two of my first round.
Now I have two wee little baby Orps, pullets less than a week
2 Americaunas, not sexed about 3 weeks,
and two Black Australorps not sexed 4 weeks.
Now I found a woman with Specked Sussex pullets two weeks old. I really REALLY wanted SS, but waited to late to get them from the local feed store. Then they lost so many of their Americaunas they didn't have enough for my order. Which is why I found a local lady with the Australorps and Americaunas. But what if they are all Roos? what if 1/2 of them are?
What if none of them are?
Would two ,more make that big a difference? the coop is big enough and they have a huge run, with a big shed attached to the coop for covered area in bad weather.
BUT I really like to know my girls, 10 seems like so many more than 8, but if any newbies are Roos....
Round and round I go. If I don't get them now, it gives me something to look forward to next spring.

Thanks for your reply! I was just throw by so many in 24 hours. Ideal was very matter of fact and refunded my money, but losing chicks meant I will need to order again to try to get my trios of endangered breeds set up. Just a glitch, but it will work out. I ordered from them because someone posted here that they would include "peanut chicks" to fill up the box if you buy less than a full box. Didn't happen in my case. Probably won't stop me from buying my batch of broilers from them though.

Which breeds did you order?

I lost 15 of the 35 assorted bantams I got from them on Friday. My highest 48 hour loss from them yet, but I'm not surprised. The heat packs weren't even warm anymore.

ETA I wouldn't really but rare breed from them if you hope to have anything of quality or do any breeding.

I ordered Yokohama roo and pullets, Delaware roo and pullets, Crevecours, and EE roo and pullets. The EEs were so much bigger that the yokohamas I think they just got trampled. I lost the Yokohama roo, several Crevecour and a Delaware pullet.

Yeah, I usually only order their assortments. I did get a Salmon Faverolle pullet from them at one point, too. Actually, now that I think about it, I have a few pullets that came from them - I bought them off of a friend who had ordered about 100 chicks from them. I have a golden pencilled hamburg that is very nice looking as well as an Ancona. They are both pretty but the Faverolle is pretty homely lol.

All 3 of those are on the Livestock Conservation list in one category or another. My thought was that even if I couldn't get the best of the best from Ideal, I could do a.breeding project where I culled those that did not meet the standard and bred successive venerations of the best offspring until I developed good stock. I still think that it is possible but I will choose another source to replace those I lost. I also want a Houdan trio, a Holland trio, a Sultan trio, and a Le Fleche trio in addition to the broilers for my freezer.
