So many breeds! So little time and space! I'm down to 41, and getting breeding groups separated today, for hatches in six or seven weeks. Mary

It would take many generations and heavy culling to get a hatchery bird up to APA/ABA standard.
I know! I'm glad there are others of you out there that I understand how great having chickens can be. No one I know understands!
Hi everyone! So chick fever has gotten ahold of me againI have a total of 27 now. I started spring with 17 but went to TSC two weeks ago and came home with 6 silkies. Found a local person on CL on Friday that has silkie/EE and frizzle/EE mix so natural I had to have some right? I wanted more green/blue eggs laying bantams so I brought 4 home. Who could say no to these cute fuzzy little peeps?

Really not trying to meet any APA/ABA standards, nust putzing around for my own standards. I don.t show and am not presently interested in it. While that coukd change, for now it would be just for my own pleasure in working with the developing lines. Heavy culoing means full freezers in my house. Especially since, with the exception of the Yokohama, a purely ornamental bird, I chose dual purpose, high foraging breeds. I get eggs from any pullets who make the cut, I get meat from culled roos and those who don't make the cut and I get to see the development of what my choices mean for the line.I agree. Better to start with high quality birds than try to fix multiple issues. It takes a long time.
Sounds wonderful! I have found myself looking for more babies and my littles are only a week old. Love you all!![]()
.Way too cute sleeping in your hand like that. One of my silkie chicks fell asleep in my hand too and my hubby thought I was nuts for getting so excited. He tells me all the time I have a chicken problem and I remind him that there are much worse things I could be addicted to.
