Chicken math

My vision was of Randy Macho Man Savage in the wrestling ring with his big sunglasses and wild clothes. Oh Yeaaah!

So I had something get a hold of one my 7 week old Dominiques and I gave away a 5 week old cochin that was definitely male. So of course I had to replace them, right? Somehow I now have 15 being shipped the first week of September. And since that is two weeks from now, I have a feeling I will add a few more to the order.... I have problems.

I spend half my time online, browsing hatcheries and breeders for my next fix.

I've spent huge amounts of time since March setting broodys, about ten in all so far. Love it! Now I'm thinking I need to add a few more breeds to see what will hatch when I set broodys next Spring. Lol!

Well, in a week I'm gonna have an empty brooder again, as I introduce my 4 youngest chicks to the flock. So now I'm agonizing over what to do. I have 3 roosters that we are keeping, 1 19 wk old pullet, 1 17 week old pullet, 3 14 week old pullets, 8 11wk old pullets, and maybe 2 4 week old pullets from the last batch. The Roos we are keeping are 19 weeks old (2) and 17 wks old(1). And I know I don't have enough girls to keep them happy and at peace with each other. Local feed stores are done with chicks for the year, and although I can buy them online, most of the breeds I want are also sold out for the year. So what to do? Order some pullets so the boys will be happy over winter? I don't think any babies I get now will lay before next spring, so I don't really want to.

Total chickens now: 21, a minimum of 3 younger ones will end up going to freezer camp, so really 18 (3 cockerels and 15 pullets)

Needed: a dozen to 20 additional pullets.

Question: Do it now, or wait till spring when the chicks I want are available?

Why is chicken math so hard? LOL
