Chicken math

And the more breeds you get, the more new breeds you'll discover you want to try.  There's always that next breed out there....next year  Three more breeds I want to try a few of.  .  Did I say that???

That is so true, I am already looking for the next breed for my mixed flock and my oldest chicks are only 12 weeks old. I promised my DH I would not buy any chicks for a couple years since we are at 20 pullets and 12 cockerels. But, he didn't say anything about fertilized eggs to hatch. :D.

I hear you. This year I added two new breeds plus some of my own mixes and my husband got bantams so that's four different kinds, whoops, five, two different kinds of bantams and my list is here for next year.

I think 2 of mine may be Roos so I'm looking at getting some chicks from a friend of mine to replace them. Of course would need more than 2 so that if any of them are Roos.....

Always only wanted "normal" chickens. Got quite a variety of those now. Then when Anna went broody and I could have hatched some mixed breed eggs of my own, I got I intrigued by silkies. My daughter had said she would like some so I looked into getting eggs which changed to getting just hatched chicks. But when I tried to move Anna to the broody coop she quit on me. Looks like I'm saved, right? But that only lasted a few days and Anastasia went broody again. Got to hunt up those silkie eggs again!

For a couple of years, my family wanted to get chickens. Last November, I got tired of waiting for the "perfect time" and ordered my first 5 for the beginning of December. Before they even arrived, we pre-ordered 6 ducks for February and 16 more chicks for the end of March...because there are so many amazing breeds and I just HAD to try them all! Well, two weeks before the second chick order arrived, my impatience caused an epiphany...I hadn't ordered enough colored egg layers!!! What was I THINKING??? Well, I HAD to buy more feed, so I headed to Rural King and came home with 5 EEs and a Partridge Rock. After all, 6 was their minimum, so it was the store's fault. Fast forward 10 weeks and YIKES, we have 2 EE roosters on our hands! We rehomed the 2 roosters a few days ago, so now there's a black hole in my flock, just starving to suck in a couple more chicks...or so! PLUS I'm once again low on colored egg layers...

What have I gotten myself into? I wanted a couple of geese. I ordered 6. Figured a few chickens for eggs and meat wouldn't hurt either. I ordered 30. My wife is going to kill me!!!!!

Wow, 30 at one shot seems like a lot. We just go up a few at a time, like 12 in four batches over three months. That' way it's easier to stay in denial.
