Chicken mites or fleas

Would diatemaceous earth work?
DE will kill grain mite, they are very fragile.

It looks exactly like the pics on that link. Thank you. I read all the comments nobody said anything about them being a harm to chickens or living on the chickens like other mites. I keep my feed on my moms back porch. Not looking forward to telling her about this. Look closely on and in the feed bag....yep, watching and waiting for 'dust' to move...to determine if they came from the feed.

They will not hurt the chickens, but you don't want them getting into your house/kitchen/pantry.

ETA, from other thread, but easy to miss ;) :
They are really quite physically fragile insects and cause no harm directly to the chickens.

I took a few pics at dark. The white dots at the top of the feather and on the fence post.

Went back to the coop at 4 in the morning to inspect more. Checked the feedbags first only saw 3 on the outside i dident open them, dident want to get them on me. Then the fence had way more on it mostly on this one post. I keep feed in the cat litter containers you can see in the backround of the picture the lids were coveres in them and my bucket water container its metal, was covererd in them as well. They seem to like to collect on metal during the night. Its easier to see them with a flash light. Where do they go in the daytime.?

Have no idea where they go at night, probably somewhere out of the light.
What is your climate? (good to put location in your profile)
Great pics!

Missouri. Its hot and humid 95-85 during the day and low as like 65 at night.

Well, it will in the feed.
This would work around the coop.
Oh...Yes in the bag of feed, if kept in a dry place.

I thought for one second you where meaning that is she put DE in her feed, feed as in feed bowl for the chickens to eat, that it would help with lice and mites on the chicken.
