and i take more out of my day than 15 minutes for my chickens i spend hours with them each day... I DO NOT NEGLECT MY CHICKENS.

i know i am on her property i feel like a horrible mother hen subjecting my flock to this terror

your chickens are YOUR responsibility regardless of you living with someone else. it's too bad that this has happened, but in all reality, sounds like your chickens do not live better than most people.

some people, according to you, have been bitten by the dog. you say the dog is a killer. he kills to kill. these are your statements. this means that your chickens were in danger from the moment you brought them onto the property.

thanks for your opinons, sorry i got offended im still upset at the loss of my hen (and no the dog was never loose i never thought the dog would get my chicken but i am upset and dealing with it)

oh.. sorry.. if was ME i did not mean to offend.. i did not really say it was your fault?? did i??.. hhmmm.. all my statment were for EVERYONE.. cause there are a few people having problems with dogs.. or buying the wrong breed for the job... and this just shows there could be problems and heartache for them in the future..

i myself had to deal with many bad choices.. in dogs.. some i did get trained (my akita) got him WELL trained, and stopped him from killing chickens.. but never broke him of trying to kill the barn cats and one time the goats were out and i saw him bringing one down..
some breeds are very hard to handle.. and if the dog is NOT yours.. kinda makes it hard for you to train.. personally i would not have it on my property.. but it is your decision..
i had to put a dog to sleep for being to agressive (i tryed everything) but the older he got the more aggressive he got.. after causing a fight in my lap and me getting BIT.. i had to make a herd choice but i had him put down..

A good shock collar will stop them in there tracks..Not a cheap one, but a real good strong setting type.
Here's the one i used to train our female lab, with 16 settings it sure does have power and to top it off i tested on my self #6 didn't feel good at all.

when its set in the high ranges it will stop any dog in its tracks. However i didn't have to go past the #4 setting for my labby girl, her brain learned quickly with it. some may say it wont work, if you have the collar on properly it will work... when the dog gets out and does not respond to its name being called, then thats when the training must begin..

The personality of that dog sounds like the personality of my stupid neighbor's dogs. They killed a number of my birds, and we are going to court over it. First of all, I would go to great pains to not let the chickens out because of that dog. Secondly, your mother should understand that the dog shouldn't be allowed to roam. It's dangerous. It kills animals, and then tries to defend its prey from humans. What happens if it goes in somebody else's yard, attacks their pet, and somebody (possibly a child) panics and tries to save the pet? It could be a tragedy, and your mother would be at fault. I hope the yard is fenced to protect your neighbors. Dogs like that should be worked with by an experienced dog person or PTS. No offence to your Mom, but staking a high energy dog out in the yard will almost always make it aggressive. Perhaps, she didn't know that. I hope you aren't in the situation long and can get a place of your own or find a solution for the dog problem.

I would also like to add that I have read through the posts and didn't see any attacks.

You cant ask a question on here without getting attacked anymore. It does not matter whether the breed is "energetic" or what it is tied to, and the question had nothing to do with that. It wasnt about judging how people raise their dogs, or making excuses for an ill-behaved dog. Protecting his kill?...Please! So yes, I saw a couple of attacks, and then someone defend an attacker. Bottom line is, if you cant talk your mom into letting you shoot the dog, call animal control for them to put it down.
