That is interesting - a melanized Polish comb? He looks mottled too - that is going to be one interesting looking bird!

Yes melanized, but no polish heritage, houdan. (s)he is 1/4 houdan.

Ah, same comb, same nostrils - extra toes. Did your chick get the 5 toes? I have a Mottled Houdan- my bird is a goofball! Did you get the dark skin from your black skinned NNs? I am reading thru the Old Fashioned Broody Hen thread - and I recently read that you posted it was an experiment to get NN with black skin to prevent sunburn, are they still working on that?

Yes, dark skin from my NN line. I have both dark and light skinned nn, see no diff in sun exposure. But think it was more for the completely naked offspring. (I don't have any naked yet)

Well here are the newest additions to my flock. They came from an assortment of leghorn, RIR, and barred rock hens and unknown rooster.


I got 2 more not in this shot. I can't wait to see what they turn out like. One is black and white chipmunk???

Here is a young mutt w/ a cool comb and a herd of mutts attacking the fermented grain, they are taking advantage of us starting a new batch.

that's a very pretty and interesting chicken. I bet it would be a very beautiful

This one I bought as a mix

I have 2 of these guys. I have no idea what they are. I bought them as day olds and they were supposed to be Wellsumer pullets. They are 7 months old.


This one I did buy as a mix. I'm very pleased with her. She is also 7 mths.

Two of my mixed hens dad is a GLW moms are no idea as the solid red one i don't have any solid red birds in my flock. I wanna breed the top hen to a slw roo to see if I can get more lacings.
