Chicken "mutt" club!!!

Pics
Here are pictures of my girls, Tess, Gracielou and MaggieMae on their first day at my place. They had a Buckeye mom and a Black Java dad. They're getting to know me slowly and I love the iridescent green sheen on their black feathers! It's really quite pretty in the sunlight.

This little suspected cockerel's egg momma is a red colored production red!

After two and a half years of waiting, I was finally able to hatch out some of my own mutts!

They've only just hatched over the past couple of days. The last two hatched a matter of hours ago.

The chick at the top of the first pic is Uno, the first to be born. I think it's probably a pure cochin with mixed colors, just from what I know about the hen and question and the most likely daddy. The second chick, Dos, is most likely the result of my Easter Egger Roo and an unknown hen. I probably won't be able to narrow its mama down until it starts to feather out. The third chick, Tres, looks to be a buff orpington crossed with ????????. Maybe time will shed some light on its daddy. The last is Quatro, an Easter Egger mixed with I haven't a clue. The coloring on Quatro is really unique among our chicks and doesn't resemble any of the possible baby-daddies, which is making it tricky for me to figure out.

Quatro looks like a standard Easter Egger chick - either Wheaten or Brown based with mixed chipmunk stripes. It has some other genes in there that are causing the stripes to be un-defined - but it will probably be a cutie! Which romantic language were you basing the names on, Spanish, Italian or ?

I've finally found a thread where I feel totally at home as all I seem to have are mixes. Looking forward to browsing through the posts when I have time.

My mixes are by far my favorite. They are great layers, super personalities, and the excitement of watching them develop and having no clue what they are going to look like is addicting! I've been watching one of my chicks that I thought was a Polish but couldn't quite figure out what was going on with his crest staying so small. Well, yesterday I figured it out. His ears are blue! Yep, my Silkie roo obviously had a liason with my Polish girl.
