chicken mystery. We have NO black adult chickens & the chick that is the oldest & black was bought by a child who could not keep it & so it was brought out to us. WELL...we just had a black chick hatch out of an egg. I repeat, we have no black adult chickens. 8/ there has been a pheasant around, guess I need to find a pic of pheasant chicks. We have sex link hens (2) & 2 bantam silkies & the rest are chantecluer chickens & the rooster is a chantecler.

Silkies can be black. Just because the adults aren't black doesn't mean they cannot produce black chicks. They can carry the gene to create black chicks.

Do you have white silkies? A white silkie can carry any color genes. My white roo rarely has white babies.

no, no white silkies & the feet are not the feet of a silkie. I will try to get a better picture.

Thank you for your input. I value all (usually) responses. We have blue (gray) silkie bantams (I think that is what they are, they came from my son in law). I will have to keep a photo journal for this particular bird. lol

Silkies have an extra toe on each foot, and they also have black skin. That includes the skin on their feet. I really doubt if your chick is a silkie. It may be part silkie but it's not a pure silkie.
