In the Brooder

I have chickens currently that are adult and some that are “teenagers” of both regular and bantams. Recently I was given an additional 8 Easter eggs and 6 bantams by a lady who was a first time chicken-neer. She brought a box of them to me and said they were all dying and she didn’t know what to do… so… of course I took them (she didn’t even have a heat lamp). After a few visits to the vet and with only 6 Easter eggs and 2 bantams left we figured out they had a massive case of cocci. So 2 weeks after meds, all is well. However the EEs are much bigger now and so I had to move them out of the brooder (we had them in there so long because they were sickly and underweight, and they couldnt hold their body temperature yet). But now the 2 little bantams that were left always seem cold and/or sad now… should I go get some more bantams and try to put them in? I’ve never had just 2 like this…??? I have thoroughly sanitized everything, but I’ve never had this situation before so I don’t know if they will still carry it??

How old are the chicks the lady brought you (a guess is fine)? Are they at least old enough to be mostly feathered? How long have you had the bantam chicks separated from the EEs? Assuming you haven't had them separated too long and they're not underfeathered or younger than the EEs, I'd think it'd be better if they were reunited with their broodmates even with the difference in size, as the EEs could help keep them warm.

It's normal for chickens to have some amount of coccidiosis in their system, it's not a problem as long as they don't breed out of control.

Ok, I think they are all about 3 weeks… they are just a bit undersized because they were a bit sickly when they got here. OK, I will try putting them back in. I’ve had both at the same time, but in their own little box. I’ve just never had them in together when they were this young. Lol. Thank you. :)

Would you be reuniting them indoors or out? Unless you're in a hot climate the bantams will still likely need supplemental heat even if the EEs are done with it.

The ees can come back in. I also have a larger brooder I can bring in for more room. I do have an outside one, but even with the heat lamp, I’m afraid it wouldn’t be warm enough. It’s still fairly cool here at night.
