I only have 4 hens at the moment that are mine but I take care of over 440 because I work at a poultry sanctuary but my 4 hens names are...
Silver laced cochin~ Ji (which means chicken in Chinese)
Pekin bantam~ leia
Cuckoo maran~ Genevieve
Rescued red star~ Manaolana/Lana (means hope in Hawaiian)

400
Australorp: Lady Rosemond (Rosie)
Blue Copper Maran: Lady Mary
SLW: Mrs. Hughes
SCBrown Leghorn: Mrs. Patmore
Patridge Rock: Poppit
BLRW: Dorothy (Dot)
Andalusian: Lady Violet
GC Maran: Ms. Moneypenny
EE: Ms. Lorena
Everybody pictured except Poppit (she was too busy) I'm a big movie buff so I mostly name them after characters from movies or TV shows I like. Pretty easy to find a cool, memorable name. Book characters would be great as well.

I can't help but wonder, regarding 'themed' names...Has anyone ever named their chickens ''Who', 'What', 'I-Don't-Know', 'Today', 'Tomorrow', 'Why' and 'Because'?

Their rooster would, of course, be 'I-Don't-Give-A-Darn!'...

I may have replied here before, I'm not sure! But if I did I had different chickens then, so for the ones I have now...

My roosters are Georgia (red-brown Cochin, had 'red Georgia clay' in mind when naming him), Alex (white and yellow d'Uccle/booted bantam mix, unisex name since I didn't know what he'd turn out to be), JD (white d'Uccle mix, has my fiancé's initials), and Spearow (white d'Uccle mix, named after a bird-like Pokémon).

My hens are Alaska (white d'Uccle, named after the book Looking for Alaska), Mykerion (black and red Cochin/Rosecomb mix, a friend named her), Willow (white d'Uccle mix, named after the willow tree), Jamie (white d'Uccle mix, named after a pet rat my friend used to have that I liked a lot), and Pidgey (white d'Uccle mix, also named after a bird-like Pokémon).

Here are the chickens I've had that have passed on, and their name inspirations...

Darcy -- first-ever chicken, had no clue how to tell her gender at first, so I went with a unisex name
Penguin -- little black and white chick
Raven -- black Rosecomb, shiny raven-like feathers
Ruthie -- a very sweet Cochin hen that my grandmother liked, so I let her pick her name
Dixon -- one of my two original roosters, along with Georgia, since Georgia has a Southern-themed name I went with Dixon
Skye -- a chicken I rescued who died two days later before I had a chance to pick a name, so I named him Skye after death, since I like to think he walked in the skies
Torchic -- named after a Pokémon who is based on a baby chick
Clarice -- friend named her
Harold -- friend named him
Gracie the Brave -- she was rescued from an abusive home and originally just called Gracie, but one day she was carried off by a hawk, she fought the hawk in mid-air, was dropped in the woods, and found her way home barely injured, so she was given the title of Brave
