My chicken laid an egg this morning and rather than taking it out, I'm going to let her sit on it and hatch it herself, (probably will be doing this every time though). In 21 days, I'll hopefully have a baby chick, so counting on that, I am looking for some cute names! I have two chickens now, Peaches (the hen who laid the egg), and Whiskey (the rooster). Does anyone have any cute names they would like to share for me? Thanks!

Hi Katy, nice to meet you. Glad you joined the BYC flock. Unless your hen goes "broody", she won't sit and hatch any eggs. Some breeds are known for being excellent broodies; silkies, cochins, buff orps., etc. Some breeds never do. Do you know what breed your hen is?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Here's a fun list from BYC of what people have named their chicks! https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chicken-names-list-over-1-000 X2 What breed is your hen? A hen will not sit on eggs unless she is broody, some never will go broody, some hens go broody fairly often usually after they have laid a clutch of eggs (number of eggs will vary), you may want to put fake eggs in the nest, and collect and date the real eggs until you have a dozen or so, then keep the fresher ones and (use the older ones to eat or whatever), give the eggs you are keeping back to her when she does go broody. There are some nice articles in the Learning Center on broody hens you might like to check out https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks

X2 on drumstick diva's advice. Is your hen actually broody? Here are a few helpful links on broodiness

I always like to name my chicks after seeing their appearances and personalties. Maybe names like Oreo, Daisy, Grace and Peppy depending on personality and appearance?

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone who replied! My hen is a bantam. Actually, today she sat on the egg. We'll see what happens though, and if she doesn't, I actually have an incubator!
