Chicken neck/gizzard enlarged - Need Help?

The swelling is about half the size this morning.

Should I continue to keep her off of feed?

She doesn't seem to be eating the yogurt.

Thank you.

Give water with apple cider vinegar in it.

It will give an immune boost and keep the packed stuff int he crop from ferminenting.

Wait until tonight to give back some crumbles - NO grit! - and keep up with lots of water.

1 quart of water with 1 tsp ACV.

Update on my Chick.

This morning the crop is smaller and much firmer. I can feel pebbles in the crop. I would say they are probably the grit.

She is active and drinking water but not touching the yogurt.

I gave her a few moistened crumbles.

She is pooping.

After looking at her and the others, she is much smaller.

Do you believe I will need to do crop surgery?

What would you recommend I do now?

Thank you.

Don't do the crop surgery. The surgery is only done in severe cases of impaction.

It just looks to me like she ate a bit too much. Looks like she'll be a chicken with pendulum crop later on. They'll run...and it'll swing in front of them. It's hilarious to watch..lol

As long as you feed crmbles, water and yogurt type treats for awhile it work itself out and be fine.

The crops will waggle when they run LOL

You all have been most helpful. I'm now in my mid 50's. Its taken a long time until I wasn't moving so much with the Military to finally get chickens. My Mom always had chickens but this is my first time. Its amazing the things you miss when someone else is taking care of the animals full time.

The chick has started to jump out of the box I made for her. My German Shepherd woke me this morning and ran to the garage door. The Shepherd likes to go out and check on the chick. I'm glag Gricie (the Shepherd) is so gentle and likes the chicks and the cats too. I just adopted her right before the chicks arrived. I will still be cautious with her around them.

Will continue to keep you all posted on her.

Happy Holidays!

Chicken Update:

Her crop is still full.

Been Feeding her yogurt only and just a few crumbles. She has plenty of water.

Her poops have gone from a bit firm to white diarhea.

Any further suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Ginger
