Hi. My name's Scott. Well, what have I gotten myself into? I have been considering getting chickens, either layers or "eaters" for a couple years now. After driving past a nearby fellows' tractors this spring, I got nosing around the internet. Ended up here in the wee hours this AM, reading what I could about broilers. Well, I pulled the trigger! As I sit here I've got 20 1 day Cornish X chicks in a cardboard refrigerator box brooder in my garage. They seem happy so far. <fingers crossed> This is gonna be good!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand New!. Today.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Twenty.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Cornish Cross from Privett via Del's Farm supply. The only place I could locate them this late in the Spring. Arrived today, so they are 1 day old.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Googling

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Riding motorcycles, boating on the nice days. The other 330 days of the year I try to stay out of the rain.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. You will be surprised how good fresh chicken really is. Are you planning on doing the butchering or do you have someone to do it for you? Good luck.

I expect to do the butchering myself. Not sure about the scalding and plucking tho. I like the skin, but seems so much easier to take it off. But I'm getting WAY ahead of myself (don't want to jynx myself) Got a couple months to go before I have anything resembling meat!
