(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I live on my best friend's farm. They have had chickens for 5-6 years but have always bought peeps via mail. We recently decided to let the broody hens hatch some eggs as an experiment (as with everything else on this farm). Two hens, after some nest hopscotch, produced 6 peeps. It is much easier to let the hens do all the hard work, so the experiment will now be embraced in the future.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Last count: 22 hens, one rooster (Rex), and 6 peeps.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Brahmas (Bramins?) white and brown, easter eggers, polish chickens, and a few others I can't remember the names of...

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are funny to watch and great fodder for silly stories.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am a solid horse person, and chickening became interesting to me when the peeps hatched.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
As I said I live in a tiny home on my best friends farm. I am studying to become a social worker. The animals: a quarter horse, one mini horse named Chester (who is a @$%%^$ but also very sweet), four goats, two barn cats, one turkey, 5 dogs and my BF's husband (ha ha).

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I found BYC about five weeks ago when the peeps were born. I decided to join because BF and her hubby went on a long vacation, and I am running the farm(ette) in their absence. I know very little about chickens other than the basics, and the peeps have been an interesting diversion until the one momma abandoned her single chick (this morning!). I am not sure what to do with the abandoned peep, so I came here to get help and maybe some sanity.

Welcome to BYC! Usually you can attempt to put the chick back under a broody hen in the dark when they're all sleeping but if she rejects it after that it's usually considered too dangerous to attempt again. After that you'd basically have to steal another chick from the other hen and raise the two of them in a brooder.... but that's more for newly hatched chicks. It's been 5 weeks since they hatched, and she's only just now pushed the chick away?
