Hey Guys! I'm new to BYC and until now I love it! I'm just a 13 year old, that loves animals, I have 3 Leghorn girls (brown)
and a leghorn rooster, a baby rooster on his way
and 2 mallard ducklings! I bought them by myself with some savings, my dad build me a coop a long time ago when I got my girls but I'm thinking about building a new one!:/
Can ya post your coops?
And duck runs too? I'm on a budget since my savings are running low, but I have started getting money again from here and there, mowing lawns etc.
And what are the main things to know about Ducks? And chickens?
Thanks appreciate the help

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I know how it is, when I was 11 , I had saved up enough from birthdays and Xmas gifts to buy a cocker puppy. Then I had to sell my bike to pay for his shots. 35 cents a week allowance didn't go very far. Allowances are much bigger nowadays but the prices for everything has skyrocketed out of control.

You can check out the coop section for many different types, sizes etc. a lot of folks use re-purposed items like shipping pallets, sheds, etc. Sometimes furniture/ appliance stores throw out BIG, wooden crates which could be tricked out to be a coop. If there is a re-hab store near you some people have found paint, windows, doors etc, that could be used. On Craig's list often people are dumping their chickens and coops for next to nothing or even free. Sometimes you can score, cheap dog runs etc.

I don't know much about ducks but, you could ask on the "Duck thread," what type of housing , etc. they need. A used sandbox, can make a small pond for them to swim in. Often "garbage day," in the community - you can find treasures that someone is throwing away. or after a garage sale - people usually throw unsold items to the curb.

If you check out the "Learning Center," you will find a ton of information on chickens and even some on ducks. Hope you will let us know how things turn out.
