Chicken Not Acting Herself

Well that sounds like better news since she is eating, not sure where you live but I did hear in the Southern California region they have a Lotta chickens that have Newcastle disease, hopefully that’s not the case. I would take some plain yogurt and mix it with her crumble & anything else she might like, best to get her as much nutrients as you can. I don’t recommend draining the abdomen of a chicken ever I have tried that once it did not work and she will end up dying from
Water Belly or Ascites in Backyard Chicken Flocks. ... More common causes of a bloated abdomen in chickens include tumors such as those caused by Marek's disease, obesity/fatty liver syndrome or egg binding/peritonitis, but if you notice a bloated belly, ascites could be the reason. Ascites isn't a disease or an illness.

Does this sound like a good plan?
I will continue to monitor her over the next day or so, I will continue to give her extra nutrients and calcium, if she gets worse I will take her to the Vet and if she gets better I will keep watching her very closely.

I am not in the SoCal area and I don't think she has the Newcastle disease.

Her symptoms do not sound like vND which generally presents as respiratory illness, the symptoms you describe are reproductive.

Update: She has gotten much worse. She is incredibly lethargic and is making really strange noises, almost like a sick duck. She looks really uncomfortable and is sitting under cover going to sleep in the middle of the day. I am going to the vet tomorrow, I am just hoping she can make it till then.

Any ideas on keeping her stable until Monday?

I'm sorry that she is not doing well :hugs

Was her crop empty this morning?

IF the abdomen is swollen by fluid you could attempt to drain a little fluid to help her if she is in respiratory distress. The stress of handling her may put her over the edge, so that is something to consider.

Thank you for the support. Her crop was empty and has been for the past few days. I don't really want to try draining anything or handling her until I can get to the vet at least. I wouldn't want to hurt her further. I will let you guys know how tomorrow goes.

Please let us know how it goes at the vet. I hope they are able to help her :hugs

We took her to the vet this morning and it went really well. She seems to have her ups and downs and today she had perked up and was much happier and seemed less sick. She didn't go to roost last night so she came in with me for the night. At the vet, they tested her stool to check for a parasite or something like that. The test went well and everything is normal for that. The vet ruled out being egg-bound and since she perked up, the vet said to watch her for a few days and if she gets any worse to bring her back.

I'm glad you were able to get her checked and everything seems normal.
