Hi, my name is Stacey, and I live in a large Victorian House on the edge of a small town in SE Iowa.
As a young girl, I had always wanted to be a Vet and live on a farm where I could raise all sorts of animals. Alas, that never happened. I am now a R.N., wife, mother, and grandmother and loving every minute of it. But, I still want all those animals--

So about, three weeks ago, I went into the local Orschlein's and looked at the new chicks. Well, that might have been a mistake,
because I can't see babies and not want to take all of them home!! I ended up with 12 assorted chicks in little take-out boxes.
I set up a brooder in the garage, in an unused black resin pond, and awaited my husbands return from work!

Needless to say, he wasn't too happy with my impulse buy! But he soon got over it, and we started building my Chicken Palace that weekend. No plans, except those in my head. Paul, my hubby, likes to see things on paper--but we managed to get the floor set, and walls up in two 8 hr days. We have been working on it whenever there is a free moment (which there are very few), and
hope to finish up this week.

Did I forget to say, I went back to Orschlein's a week later and brought home 2 more assorted(fry?) yet to be identified, and just last Friday, 5 Americaunas, and 1 silver Bantum! YIKES, thats 20 total chicks---soon to be big Chickens!!

Well, anywho, that's the start of my crazy chicken life... more to come.
Thanks for the great chicken website! I have done a lot of research on your site alone.

Well, hopefully the town doesn't have a "chick-fit" and my husband and I are building a 8x 12 Chicken palace--to be completed soon.
I won't back down easily if the town says I can't---I've always been a little to rebellious!
