I have not had a problem keeping my bachelors' quarters near my hens coops & runs. I have several hens with males and then a couple of bachelor flocks. All of my roosters are over 2 years of age. I let the bachelors free-range daily. Occasionally a fight will crop up but they quickly go their seperate ways. The boys never wander too far from the gals. They like to hang around outside their runs.
Roosters, like hens, have to establish a pecking order. They will do so and it can be vicious. The great thing about roosters is that once their order is established they generally go about their business without holding a grudge. Also they are great eye candy. I very much enjoy my roosters.
I recommend a fishing net to help break up fights and establish your family as the flock leaders. I also, never leave my grandchildren unatended with roosters.

Another thing is that roosters require a little more space to get away from each other. For 4, I would recommend no less than 25 sq ft each in the run and no less than 5 sq ft each in the coop. You will need at least two feeders and two waterers.

Thank you. Im hoping to get everything sorted out before the hens are ready to lay eggs. I think thats when I would have to worry about the roosters being more aggressive with the hens...(I think) right now they are great. We have 1 rooster who is the "leader" and he bites us...more so my daughter, he does little dances near her. But he let's her pick him up and they cuddle. So he's a little butthead.
