This morning we found one of our 1 year old Americanas limping around the coop. She’s only using one of her legs, using a wing to stabilize herself, and lays on her side when she’s not waking. When we hold her the leg she’s not using just kinda hangs there. What type of injury would this be? I assume she somehow broke or dislocated it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never had that exact problem, but my hen won't put weight on her leg and it sounds a lot like your hen's problem, with how when I hold it, it also just hangs. The only difference is mine has had a limp her whole life and then it finally got to the point where she can't walk at all. A really hope you get some answers! I have helped mine by building her a wheelchair, but maybe the problems aren't related at all. I haven't had any experience with broken legs or dislocations. I wish I could help you more!

Does she put any weight on it, drag it, or hold it up when she walks? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? An injury should be considered, so I would look her foot and leg over for any sores, redness, green bruising, or swelling. Do you have high roosts or a rooster who might have hurt her?

She just kinda drags it, dosent out weight on it. She’s not vaccinated but I don’t believe it’s any disease because they were all out running around yesterday. There’s no physical signs or injury so I assume it might be in the joint or hip. They have nesting boxes a couple feet high which is probably the culprit.
Would anybody have any tips on treating a possible leg injury or is she done for? I attached a picture of her to show how she lays around.
Thanks!

You try placing her in a chicken sling or chair for periods throughout the day to get her upright and in front of food and water. Some chickens will escape them or not tolerate them. Let her out of it to relax or to sleep. A vet might be best to decide if it is nerve damage from an injury or dislocated leg, or something like Mareks disease. Mareks can cause weakness progressing to paralysis in one or both legs or wings. There are other possible symptoms that may or may not happen. Hopefully, it is an injury and not that. Here is some reading about Mareks disease:
