Chicken out of pen

How old do chicken have to be before you let them out of their pen. I am not wanting the to run off.
 
First thing I would do is lock them in their coop for at least a week so they know where home is. Then let them out 2 hours before dusk they won't venture far because they can't see in the dark. As far as the age around 5 weeks. If you have alot of predators they are an easy target at this age so I recommend supervising them till they get bigger. Just remember everything eats chickens at any age. I got tired of watching mine & got a roo. But again there's no guarantees. Good Luck their fun to watch.
