I have had chickens for about 2 years now. I have a huge pen plus 6 acres of property (no pond though). I would really like to get some ducks. I have been doing research, but I would really appreciate any advice that you guys/gals could give me!

They stink more and eat more

We had to get a separate pen for our ducks, the rooster we have doesn't like ducks and the drake and him would get in huge brawls. Ducks are a bit more messy and can't use same meds as chickens for the most part.

Ducks are awesome. A kiddie pool works great as a "pond".

Some people raise them together, others don't because ducks ARE messy...but then again my quail make the ducks look neat and tidy...LOL

I have had chickens for years and a friend of mine had ducks. She let one of her muscovies hatch her eggs and they were just too cute and I had to have one. Brought one home, raised it and decided she needed a friend..........I now have 12 ducks. Muscovies, calls, khakis, and mandarins. I had to seperate them from the chickens, they were together at first. The chickens would beat the ducks up if they were sitting on eggs and the ducks made mud of the chickens water. Ducks are definately very messy but with all the land you have you should be all right. Kiddie pools are what mine play in and they do just fine. Ducks are soooo much fun to watch and the babies are just so darn cute. Good luck if you decide to get some.
