Im new to raising chickens. I would like to hear from you! What is everyones thoughts on the new chicken coop and run! Would like some feedback on these accommodations and how many chickens it’s capable of sustaining comfortably. I plan to use the barn as the roost and to keep my birds warm in winter. What is everyone’s thoughts on this setup? The run is 8’ wide 12’ long and 6’6 tall, there is a metal roof across the top. I have hardware cloth buried 1’ deep and 2’ wide around the perimeter that is attached to the coop so no predators can dig under. I am also attaching the roost photos from inside the barn which has an 8’ long perch inside a 3’ deep 8’ long and 3’6” tall roost as well a door to enter the run. This will also act as protection in the winter. What are your thoughts on this project, how many chickens can I accommodate and what improvements do you recommend?

Lookin good! Post your location on your profile. That can help with suggestions. And what are dimensions of coop? Depending on location and coop size I would probably go with about 9 for run Also depends if they are going to be able to free range and location If the inside of barn is used you have good size coop! Adding close up picks can help with predator proof suggestions and you already placed HC skirt which to is what I hate doing most for predators so that’s awesome! Welcome aboard to BYC. Nice setup!!

Do the dimensions not show up in my original thread post? The run is 8’ wide 12’ long and 6’6” tall. I have placed 4 nesting boxes in it and some roosting bars. However the actual coop is 8’ long 3’ wide and 3’6 tall. It has 1 roosting bar. The birds do free range during the day 3-4 hours.

Nice set up, with that space and free range you would figure the number of chickens for the 8'X3' space (where you would close them in) That works out to 6 hens (+1 roo).
If they are going to be using both areas 24/7 then you could go up to 9 hens plus 1 rooster.

Sorry. Missed the coop dimensions. Coop dimensions more suited for prob about 6. Never been to Indiana. How’s to climate. Like winters and summers
