Chicken passed, what to do

I have buried some, and I have burned some (cremation). If it's infection, my preference is the burn pile, no worries of bacteria making something else sick. I would also do that if it was viral. I always have a large pile of limbs and yard stuff, so normally that is convenient for me. I have also kept them in the freezer for a time on occasion. When you have an animal euthanized by injection, the meds remain in the body and can adversely effect an animal that eats them, so bury deep if you go that route.

Thank you everyone. Your responses were very much appreciated and it was comforting having people who understood. Sadly Lucy went downhill last night. We spent the night with the lights low and the house quiet sitting on the couch to comfort her. We went to the vet first thing this morning, and I made the decision to have her cremated.

I typically bury them as well. However, (I know this is probably weird/bad taste to some if not most - I don't blame you if you feel this way!) I am getting ready to send my old guinea hen to the taxidermist. I had her for 10 years and she was my husband's favorite. Lost my husband 5 years ago so I want to keep her around.

Hope I don't regret having it done.
This may be in even worse/weirder taste...better the bird than the hubby.
I thought about going taxidermy route with my last my dog.

Cremation for my pets has always been my preference. I'm sorry for your loss. Big hugs. :hugs
Thanks, same to you.
First dog got euthanized at vets and cremated, 2nd one died here and was buried here with her 'sister' cremains, last one was euthanized here and buried here.

I don't think that's weird at all. The only thing I would worry about with a dog is finding the right taxidermist that won't mess up it's face. Dogs and cats have so many more facial muscles and therefore more expressions. Not to mention you grow accustomed to your pet's unique expressions. There's always a good chance your pet won't look like your pet at all.... Which is what I'm most afraid of I think. Should be okay with a bird though.

You can build a fire to thaw the ground and then bury her. When I bury mine I warp them up in a plastic bag so the smell doesn’t escape as much so animals have a harder time detecting it. Then as a precaution I put some heavy rocks over the body and then bury it. If your not up to digging you could cremate her.

Exactly.
Thought was fleeting, and not serious...triggered by a John Irving book I read long ago that featured a stuffed dog, among many other weird things.

The weird part was my saying ....
