Chicken Pecked, possible nerve damage?

Dunno Wyarp, to me it looks like you are preparing for your next horror movie so I will go with OR.
If this thread is going to turn into who can show the most gruesome injuries I'm out. Just brings back bad memories as I am surprised it doesn't for you if that was one of yours.
ok I've never seen pecking injuries this severe myself.

It could be but I am still sticking with the netting theory that it stuck its head through the netting, got stuck, panicked and try to free itself and like a rabbit stuck in a sling trap it pulled all its skin off.
Birds then will peck at an open wound, that is to be expected.
Maybe I am wrong but like said it does make a difference to determine how bad the damage is so if there is no evidence on the fence of an injury maybe it was the birds even if I have a hard time imagining what would cause them to do something like this
I'm just trying to make a point. You have a hard time imagining that a chicken can outright damage another.
Most of the time it does not matter the cause of injury when treating a wound.
Possible in this case the OP's injury is from fencing, but more likely the damage is from picking/being attacked, imho.

It is nice to know what happened so any issues can be addressed - fixing fencing, making changes within the flock, depopulating, etc.

This is the ER forums, so it's expected - eh it's almost a requirement that photos be posted - yes - poop, blood, injury, pus...it's all going to be here. If the images bother you, then maybe this forum is not for you. Yes, the images can make you cringe at times, but it's part of learning and being able to assist others when they are having problems.

I'm not trying to shock you or even prepare for a horror show. I'm showing you reality. Chickens hurt one another, On Purpose. That's the reality of it all.
Yes. This hen is mine. It's not an "or" category. The damage to her was from a rooster - I will try to spare your sensibilities, but I was not home, but able to play all the "action" back on my coop/run cameras. The attack was intentional and it was brutal. The photos do not do it justice and she was severely torn up. I had already patched her up when the photo was taken. In this instance - it was nice to know what happened because I corrected the problem by culling that rooster. That is reality as well - sometimes there needs to be a change within the flock too.

I'm not saying that the OP needs to make a change necessarily, but they may want to analyze their setup - if older birds are able to reach youngsters that are being introduced, then some blocking or a different wire in that section may be needed.
We all learn, we all make mistakes.

Any update on this chick? I have a baby with a very similar looking pecking injury. I hosted a wedding at my house and I believe it stressed my chicken and they attacked my little lady. I'm a nurse so I'm pretty good with human wounds... hoping that helps me with my chick!
Just hoping to know how things ended up with your chick and if you have any advice from what you learned in trying to help your's heal. Thank you!
