has anyone ever tryed one of them new chicken pluckers thay look ez to make but look like thay would bruce the bird to me I have always done it by hand but if it kes life ezer then it`s to the shop we go some of them even worked on drill

We built a tub plucker based off the whizbang chicken plucker, and would not intentionally pluck one by hand again, I haven't run one of the style that runs off a drill, but have seen the videos, and if you are plucking very many at all, go the extra expense for the tub picker.

The plucker will not bruise the bird, because you have already drained the blood from it. You can break wings and legs with it though.

I think I used about 75 fingers between the feather plate and the barrel. I used a 30 gallon barrel, and only pluck one at a time, as we raise pretty good sized birds. I have not done quail or turkeys in ours. I got the fingers off someone on ebay, and paid about .50 cents each. That was about the best deal I could find at the time, had to hunt quite a while for it at that time, looks like that is about what they are going for now.

It is worth the expense to get the Whizbang chicken plucker book, as there are quite a few details that he has worked out, that will save you time and money. There is a yahoo group that discusses construction of these pluckers, worth checking out.
