Chicken poop clean up and discarding

Hi everyone,
I have not been on here in so long. I am writing today to see what everyone does with all the poop from the inside of the coop. I have tried to use as much as possible but I cant use it all. Where do you get rid of it? Do you just put it in bags and throw it out with regular trash???

Oh heavens no! There is never enough poop here. Even with a flock that varies from 17 - 48 birds! I use deep litter in coop and run. In the run, the poo simply melts into the soil, along with the rest of the DL. I can harvest many WB loads of finished compost from the run every season. I have a garden, an orchard, a HK mound, and am now working on a sheet compost area. When the sheet compost area is finished, it will be about 30 x 30'.

You could compost it, use it on your gardens (veggie and flowers). You could even sell it!

just compost it. make a pile with the wood chips, water it and it will decompose.( thats what i did)

Unfortunately I live in a small city and I have no garden of my own. I have never added it to the ground due to the smell but I will try that this weekend as its going to snow and it will not smell so bad to my neighbors.

I live in the county where I can just scatter it all around. What do you have in the bottom of the coop? Certain substrates may make it easier to dispose of waste. I have constructions sand in the bottom then a cat litter box a scooper. The chicken waste stays in a bucket until the bucket is full then scattered around.

At this point I'm composting and using deep litter in my coop. I'm thinking about expanding deep litter to the small yard where the coop is with an area for grass frames. I'm also planning to try bsfl to help with poop disposal and provide some yummy protein for the birds.

BSFL would be a win/win/win situation if one lived in the right climate. Is there any published info about using them for poop management?

I also wonder about setting up a worm bin, and adding leaves or hay along with poo. Biggest concern with either method would be the high nitrogen content of the chicken poo. Might burn the little buggers.

My coop is off the floor which is dirt and the coop has sawdust and lots of poop right now. I am going to try and just spread it on the ground. Its the smell that bothers me. We are not allowed to compost in our town.

As you live in an urban area my solution would be no use, but as I use sawdust from a wood-mill to absorb the poo, I just wait until it starts to smell of ammonia, at which point it all gets shoveled into a wheel barrow, and marched round the yard being deposited near the trees as I go.

DL has been the answer to my manure problems and has as Lazy Gardener say's supplied great compost for the vegetable garden. Also cuts down on the need to clean out as often once a year is fine for me.
