Chicken poop in the Garden

I went back out to the garden for a bit.
I am moving all my raised beds.
I needed to level an area some.
:barnie This soul sucking clay is already like concrete!
Even with years and years of adding chicken compost, leaves and grass clippings. :(

I rented a 5-ton dump trailer and brought in 15 tons of granite sand to spread on our clay garden. Tilled it in with a horrible Club Cadet tiller that hurt my back. What a difference though. Planted spuds yesterday and watering them was a breeze. Water sinks right in.

Now we go on the program to add organic matter too. That needs to be replenished every year, but that sand is permanent.

That is awesome. Way to work it. How about some photos? :D

Wow. That is a gorgeous undertaking. Looks like you have some big yummy plans. What are you planning to plant?

I'd have to ask the CEO (chicken executive officer). She's also the boss of the garden. I just do the heavy work, with our sons helping. I remember her saying corn, with peas climbing up the stalks. And I'm supposed to build a bean climbing thingy too. Oh, and she bought baby zucchinis yesterday. I encourage her to grow staples that do well in this harsh TX climate. We get 108F in July, for example, hot winds, drought, all a challenge.
