So I'm keeping them with the other pullets in the same generation. All of the Silkie-X hens I have are laying blue or minty green eggs. Come spring, I'll be able to start working on another generation, and choose for the ones with silkied feathers.

Everyone's chicks are sooo cute!! I have five little mutt babies that I allowed a broody to hatch. I can't keep them tho, so if I don't find homes after mom is done they'll have to go to auction. But they are so cute bouncing around on my lawn!

I dodged a bullet today I think. I had thrown an old wicker thing on top of my compost pile. Not sure why I put it there, was probably planning to wheel it out with other garbage and had nowhere to set it. Was putting more shavings in the pile today and saw movement. There was a pullet in there sitting on 13 little pullet eggs...! in my compost pile! I thought it was just a secret stash, but now she's acting oddly like she's looking for her eggs. Ack! a barely 6 month old broody still laying little pullet eggs! Just what I need.

She'll have to wait it out, not hatching any more eggs this year if I can help it. I cracked all the eggs after candling and only about two looked fertile and no veining thankfully. I have one adult roo to 40+ hens and he's not THAT proficient!

I'm hoping to develop a blue/green-egg-laying Silkie. I'm seeing some silkie-feathered chicks in this latest batch and that is a wonderful sign!! I'll keep on hatching and culling (sending the 4-toed, non-dark-skinned, non-colored-egg-laying hens to Mom and the Farm) until I get a good base of Silkie-Xs in splash and partridge, then it will be time for enlisting the assistance of BYCers to hatch as many as they can lay. If all goes well, there might be a standardized Silkie-X in a couple of colors in a few years time!

When I first read about chicken generations, it didn't seem like a very long time... Now it seems to take forever!!!​

I bet it does! You have to wait for each generation to mature and lay eggs....

We had a little Peacock Adventure this evening... *sigh*
