Rocky: The rooster who loves killing hawks.. mating with hens.. and eating blueberries.

Thank you. It is raining over here now, I will check out the brick pavers and rip-rap. I won't be able to do it until probably after Christmas as we still have rain to then.

Thank you for the pictures.
That is awesome yard! It mostly likely to take me longer to do my yard. The pavers look really nice. A little space in between the paver allow chickens to peck at and still they have clean surface to walk on. Some of my chickens have furry feet so dry surface is healthy for them. Our climate here is a bit similar to California, so no risk of snow there.
I understand how fluffy feet certainly don't do well in muddy rain. We chicken owners all seem to have some kind of issues we have to fix for our chickens.

Rome wasn't built in a day. We tackled one muddy issue at a time & 4 yrs later it is mostly done. We tackled the immediate places first which was the run, then turned attention to not so immediate areas afterwards.

Just think of all the time you'll have for planning while its raining & see where the worst damage is & start work there. The planning is fun, the work hard, & the satisfaction when its done is priceless! We had to buy our pavers a few at a time as the work progressed cuz of $$$. But when a sale hit we bought 2 palletsfull & had Lowe's deliver the pallets to our driveway.

Looking at your yard gives me a lot of ideas. I do have some turmeric and ginger plants in chicken run and they were mowed down by our girls in no time.

I have this time to do the planning and when I do order those pavers, I need to do them all in one goes as the delivery fee is very expensive.

Your chicken run is really nice, it has trees, and these trees are fenced I really like it. It will take us a long time to get all these done, especially the ground is so uneven. I have a big compost bin in the middle of my chicken run so it is not moveable until it is finalised the compost which is a long time.

We are having pouring rain at the moment, and I am wanting to get same sugarcane mulch to temporary fix the muddiness and water potholes, but I can not as it is raining so badly now.

No snow, I am in Australia and our state's weather is similar to that of California. We have many tourists from Europe in our winter and they are acting like it is summer while we are all cover up. :)
Yep my parents went to Arizona for winter and would be in shorts, the locals wore long pants and jackets 😁

You’re in your summer season soon, how hot does it get there?

Have fun planning. We remodeled our entire backyard w/ chickens in mind. Crazy chicken people!

Oh,yes. delivery of pallets is costly. We were buying a few pavers at a time ~ anywhere from 15 to 45 stones at a time as I needed them cuz I worked slowly. It was time consuming leveling the soil so I laid anywhere from 4 to 20 stones only each day depending how much time it took to level the ground or slope it in some areas for rain run-off. But when a holiday sale posted a discount for buying a pallet it absorbed the cost of the delivery charge. I watched sales diligently for pallet sales.

Yes, our chicken run trees are circled w/ bricks that anchor the 2-foot tall rabbit fencing around each tree. Chickens love to dig & scatter dirt everywhere so the fencing protects the tree base yet still provides shade & hiding places. We added popup canopies, recycled doghouses, & made a couple of make-shift benches against the brick wall in the chicken run for more shade & hiding areas. We just used a plank of treated lumber laid across some stacked pavers for benches we can sit on too.

Did your parents like the weather in Arizona? I have only been to LA in winter and it was like our weather here.

Today is our 1st day of Summer being 1/12 = 1st December. Our summer is dry heat and it is between 30degree - 35 degree. Converse to US Fahrenheit is 86-95. That is just my state being not as hot, but other states in Australia is much warmer to around 104 Fahrenheit.

It is dry heat kind of hot weather. We spend a lot of time at the beach or shopping centre/US Malls. I get defrosted walking from the office to my bus. The office is freezing cold and so is the bus. I get freeze up in the bus and defrost again walking from the bus stop to my home.

I hang out my laundry around 6am to avoid being cook by the sun, then take them in about 12pm afternoon and being cook in the sun. Our laundry is crispy dry by then. If I leave them out much later, the colour will fade. Our weather forecast that we will have turbulent weather and flash flooding.

Thank you for the photos and video clip. It was so nice to look at your chickens trying to eat those cucumber leaf.

Your chicken run can be a nice place to sit watch chickens do chicken stuff and enjoy the outdoor, watch the sun rise or sunset.

I have been planning, and have in mind a few different paver and big bricks. Our chicken run is small, but we can plant garden bed like your with a smaller size. I have to buy all the pavers/bricks in one go or the delivery fee will cost more than the rest.

We have been having lot of rain so I can not do anything now, the whole place is soaking in pool of water. My feet got all wrinkle up from walking out to do my chicken tasks. Planning is enjoyable though.

They enjoyed going there for the winters - here in Canada winters are long and cold. Today it’s not been above -1C (30F) and the wind has been blowing hard making it feel colder.

We get something called ‘lake effect snow’ here depending on wind direction. Being more westerly meant my sister and niece north of me received about 3’ of snow! I have none here (thank goodness!).

But the wind has now swapped around and is from the NW so I bet I will have snow overnight. Oh joy….. did I mention I hate winter 🤔
