Chicken pox!

Has anyone got advice for dealing with fowl pox? I've had this problem once before a few months ago and it's now back again! it's affected two separate pens now, oddly enough only my roosters so far.

Question 1. What should I be feeding at this time when the birds aren't feeling 100%

Question 2. Is this a disease that's going to hang around and continue to affect all of my birds?

Fowl pox is a virus that is transmitted by biting insects, usually mosquito's. Once a bird has had it, they should have some resistance to it and not get it again. The dry form usually runs it's course with no major issues in several weeks. Birds that get the wet form may require more supportive care. There is no real treatment other than supportive care. The scabs can also spread it, so it's best to leave them alone unless absolutely necessary, and keep feeders and waterers clean. If they have a lesion close to the eye, that can sometimes lead to a secondary infection in the eye for which you can use terramycin eye ointment or plain neosporin. Feed them their regular feed, you can mix it in water to make a mash, that may tempt them more and help with hydration. Mix in a little scrambled egg, canned tuna, to give them a little more protein if they need tempting. You can add a poultry vitamin if you want to, as long as it doesn't put them off their food or water.
