can you get hold of a bar of carbolic soap? If so, just put it on/near the cage and insects will avoid the area.

If it ws that easy to repell mosquitos then everyone would be doing it. Lots of things will discourage them some but nothing will stop them except window screen.

Chicken odor is actually a natural mosquito repellant.
