Chicken Quilt Block Swap---BLOCKS ARE IN THE MAIL!!!

Coyote, yours is the most colorful! I was thinking to outline all with the machine to quilt. Any suggestions?

I think I would do a stitch in the ditch of all the squares and then outline the different chickens. Either just inside the edge of the appliques or just outside. I don't know what it's called but I call it "echoing". basicly you sew a ruff outline of the applique about a 1/4 or /12 from the applique. When I learned applique, I was taught to make your stitches part of the charm of your quilt. Mine got appliqued with whatever color thread I grabbed out of the bag. Didn't even bother too look.

ETA--I wish I could find the picture of the quilt I made for my brother. It was appliqued on black. It had a "full moon" that was a circle of a wolf prints that reflected down below on the "stream" was a flowing wolfpack. The mountains, rocks and cacti were all southwestern prints. It had very little elements to it but it just popped! I used the "echoing" techinque and did it all by hand. The lines were about 2inches apart and eventually blended into each other like the ripples on a pond. I'll see if I can get a copy of it for you to see.

Oh my...how pretty! I have never seen the drunkard's path flowers before, they work perfect with the rest of the colors in the chickens. I just did a meandering pattern on the table runners. I quilted the background of each block and the chicken ended up slightly raised from the rest of the quilt.

WOW! I am so impressed and totally inspired to get going on my blocks. My 7 YO is dying to have a blanket made from chicken squares. Thanks for your inspirations everyone!

The primary colored shorty cluck came from NH!

Verthandi, I'm gonna try to do a table runner also. What to do with all these blocks!

I've just trimmed down 13 of them to make a log cabin effect. Grandkids and son may be with us for the week, so I will slow down a little! Welman, I hope to label the reverse of each block with the maker's name. I'm already having a wonderful time talking about each quilter (what little I actually know!

Coyote, I needed one more block for the log cabin (actually Chimney and Cornerstones) combo with chickens, so I shrank Kickin' Rooster to 93% and cut out colorful pieces like you did. Well! That is one bothersome block! Both of the blocks I chose for the swap were way easier to place and press. I have renewed respect for your talent and patience! The block is together and ready to stitch. I've got to piece 5 more log cabin blocks, then I've got to draft the borders to replicate the one I'm copying. I've also got another baby shower next week, so it's either playtime or playtime. Baby clothes are just as fun!

I love all my chicken blocks that I got and I'm still not sure what to do with them all. Every once in a while I go through them and sort them according to colour or pattern. Anyway, I was inspired by vert's table runner. So I did one too. These two blocks were the only ones in the black colour theme so I made this:

I have no space on my walls for it though. So it hangs in my sewing nook for now. It's too short for my table
