Hello all! I am new to the group and have a question. Has anyone been successful in adopting chickens to their HOA CC&R's in unincorporated San Diego? Currently, my HOA documents state that no more than 2 of the "usual" pets, i.e. dogs, cats are allowed per household. With the size of the backyards in my neighborhood, we can easily accommodate a small coop and a handful of chickens. I believe the thought process of continuing to deny them is a) belief that chickens will diminish property value b) the smells of the coops and chickens will be unpleasant to neighbors and prospective buyers.

Do you have any advice on how to convince the HOA to allow this? What are the laws for Fallbrook? 25ft from neighbors and 13ft from patio? No roosters?

Thank you all so much in advance!
Abby

Hello Abby, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

I have zero experience in changing an ordinance. I think it would take a very long time to get a reasonable change. To this day I have no idea what the appeal is in living in an HOA community.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

I have never had to deal with HOAs, city laws or such things, so I can't offer you any help with that. But definitely follow the links that @Debbie292d provided above, I do hope you can keep a flock soon! 🐔
