Chicken roosts problem

With a solid roof?
This was winter here last year:

Those are the tips of my 40" posts just poking up out of the snow that fell in one night. No netting or tarp is going to stand up to something like this.

It has heavy duty wire and I’ll have to find something that can withstand that. Do you put straw in the run for chickens?

The only thing that is going to withstand that is a solid roof on a solid structure.
I use a thick layer of wood chips in the run and put an extra bag of hemp or pine shavings in the coop. The get wrapped in reinforced poly sheeting to block the wind.

I don't understand. Guessing it has to do with snow and I don't need to understand.:idunno

If your run door opens inward and it's blocked by snow in the run you'll have to cut the wire to get in and tend to the chickens. :)

But if it opens outward you can shovel it clear, open it, and shovel you're way to the coop.
