Chicken run flooring

Happy Friday everyone.

What do you all use on the floor in your run? Sand, woodchips etc... also, do you continue it into the coop floor or use something different?

If you have any photos too that would be amazing!

My run is covered and I have used pine shavings with deep litter method for 6 years. I clean it all out spring and fall and have lots of nice compost.

Do you find the poop makes the shavings stick to their feet?

Ours will have a covered run too.

I had a covered run with a rock/dirt floor. I used some pine shavings, but mostly detritus from around the yard(leaves, grass clippings, etc.). Our run was in the space under our sunroom, and we used mobile fencing when we wanted to confine them to the run, so it was easier to facilitate movement of the bedding.

My run is all grass and 3,000 sq ft... My coop I use pine shavings or straw depends on my mood I guess. If I want to take a trip to the local farm, I do straw. If not I go to TSC and get pine shavings.

I have not experienced that problem but my birds get out in the chicken yard and don’t spend much time in coop or run.

I do deep litter, mainly chunky aged wood chips with dried leaves and dried grass when available. Our run is not roofed and we get a lot of rain during fall and spring so the deep litter lets the water drain through.

My runs have semi-deep litter(cold composting), never clean anything out, just add smaller dry materials on occasion, add larger wood chippings as needed.
Aged ramial wood chippings are best IMO.
