Chicken Run Question

You can pick up the droppings or hang fly traps to help.

I’m sure many many people have hung fly traps up with no issues, me personally I am scared to use them again. When our chicks were about 8 or 9 weeks we had a fly trap fall down and stick to a hens neck/back. She was no worse for the wear and was proudly strutting around with her new sticky feather but her grandmother had a panic attack when she found her and brought her to me at work to get it off!!! Lol Lizabeth the hen was not happy about it being removed and I swore no more fly traps anywhere near the chickens! Lol

I had grass that is now dirt in a 8.5x10.5 foot run. So far I have added one bale of straw, one bucket of sand, pine shavings from the coop, and grass clippings when they aren't too long. The straw and pine shavings are in tiny bits all over the run, the grass clippings usually get eaten or scratched into the dirt. I scoop the poop for the compost. Scooping takes 5 minutes, maximum, and that's going slowly and talking to the chickens while I do it. I thank them for the poop as much as the eggs.
