Pros and Cons of building a chicken run out of 6' wood fencing. I was going to go with a chain link dog run but I am now leaning towards building the run out of 6' privqcy fence.

I suggest hardware cloth around the lower portion. It's stronger than chicken wire, so it would help keep snakes out, rats, other rodents, and racoons. The chicken wire would just help keep your younger birds in. The racoons could still tear away the chicken wire and reach through one side, sending panicked birds to the other side where the rest of the racoon clan could get the birds. While you're building, maybe you could make an apron of the wire around the outside of the run to prevent animals digging under the fence and getting in, also. keeping out the rodents will also help keep out snakes and other things that eat the rodents.

I agree with the above statements, however my question is geared more towards pros and cons of privacy fence vs chain link. I understand securing the bottom.

Pros of privacy fence: sturdy, can’t see through, provides shade
Cons: can be climbed, rots fairly quickly.

Pros of dog kennel: metal, sturdy, strong, doesn’t rot very fast, can be buried some, not as easily climbed.
Cons: doesn’t provide shade ( shade cloth can be put on it though) gaps are relatively wide( but can be fixed with wire).

Will add lack of air circulation as a con of privacy fence.

@Chris Lorentz it would help to know....
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
